Dragging-and-dropping files

Windows Explorer provides an alternative way for you to open .DTP files A document stored on a hard or floppy disk, or other media. and import To load text or a picture created with another program into Publisher. text and picture files into Publisher. This alternative method is known as "dragging-and-dropping" because you "drag" the document or file from Explorer, and "drop" it into the Publisher window.

How to use Windows "dragging-and-dropping"

  1. From the Start menu A list of available commands and actions in Publisher. Menu names are displayed in the menu bar at the top of the Publisher window., select Windows Explorer.

  2. Make sure that Publisher is running.

  3. Arrange the windows on your screen so that both Explorer and the Publisher window are visible.

  4. Open the folder containing the document The combination of text and pictures. Also called a Publisher DTP file. that you want to open or the file you want to import.

  5. Select the document or file, then holding down the mouse button, drag the item onto the Publisher window and release the mouse button.

The document will then open in Publisher and the name of the imported file will be listed in the contents list The small window that lists the named text, pictures and OLE objects in your document..

If you select a frame A shape used to hold text, pictures, graphics, PowerText or OLE objects. before "dragging-and-dropping", the file will automatically be placed in the frame.

If you move the mouse pointer The arrow-shaped cursor on the screen that follows the movement of the mouse and indicates which area of the screen will be affected when you press the mouse button. The pointer will change shape when you perform certain tasks. over a frame while you are dragging it into Publisher, the frame will be selected and you can drop the file into it.

If you do not select a frame, Publisher will create a new frame and place the file in it.
